5 OF THE MOST INTERESTING CLIMBING PODCASTS WE'VE EVER HEARD

Climbing podcasts are out there, and I have listened to most of them. After hundreds of listening hours - here are my favorite podcasts that help motivate and educate me on all things climbing.

CHALKTALK CLIMBING

John Blomquist interviews climbing professionals to help listeners “inform yourselves as to what you want to know when you didn’t even know you wanted to know it”. He delivers plenty of insightful conversations with climbers, many of which, like Petra Klinger, Leah Crane and Shauna Coxsey compete as professional climbers. However, climbers are just one piece of the pie, Blomquist takes us deep in the mindset of other experts in the rock climbing world, like Tyson Schoene, head coach of the youth climbing teams at Vertical World, legendary route setter Tonde Katiyo and Editor in Chief of Climbing Magazine, Julie Ellison. Chalk Talk is one of my personal favorites because it offers the unique insights of people integral to the competition and media climbing scene.

Don’t miss their latest podcast featuring Jason Kehl, who has been a part of Earth Treks since our first gym in Columbia and is integral to the design of many of our walls.

TRAINING BETA

One of three big hitters in the climbing podcast training sphere. Neely Quinn delivers insightful conversations with many different climbers, ranging from climbing pros to people who fight to make time to climb with a 50-hour workweek. Combine the podcast with the Training Beta website and you have a tremendous resource for climbing, training and Neely's specialty, nutrition. The episodes with the BD Bootcamp participants should not be missed! (Episode 58 Joe Kinder, Episode 64 Dan Mirsky, Episode 62 Colette McInerney and Episode 60 Sam Elias)

POWER COMPANY

Another of the three big hitters in the climbing podcast training sphere is Kris "Odub" Hampton with Power Company. He has been delivering amazing conversations with climbers of interest, but perhaps the most valuable thing is the 'Boardroom Meetings' episodes that contain the insights of the Power Company team. Check out Episode 13: Boardroom Meetings - Top 3 Mistakes We See Being Made. This man has been putting out quality content on climbing better and smarter since he was on Enormocast. This is the place I go to in order to look at myself and whether I have been getting after my goals as a climber.

ENORMOCAST

The OG (at least to me) climbing podcast. Hosted by Chris Kalous, the podcast features a wide range of guests; Tommy Caldwell,  Madaleine Sorkin, Boone Speed, Jean-Pierre Ouellet, just to name a few, and each interview has challenged, informed and strengthened my views and connection with climbing. It always feels like I know Chris and his guest at the end of the episode and more than one episode (Episode 11 with Craig Demartino) has left me truly speechless afterwards.

MOVE SMART

A podcast about moving. Justin Goodhart has a discontinued podcast that provides insights and interviews from movement, gymnast, strength and mobility experts. The topics and guests range, but the idea is that movement should be a part of your life, period. Episode 24 is with the German National Climbing coach Udo Neumann, many of the episodes provide insights to the depth of movement in the world, distilled for the uninitiated (me).

Lawrence Osefoh is a route setter and team coach at Earth Treks Columbia. He has been climbing for five years and sharing his passion for climbing at Earth Treks for four years.
