Learn the safety systems of belaying, basic knot tying, and basic climbing movement in this hands-on class. Designed for people with little or no climbing experience, this course teaches the skills needed to climb independently at Earth Treks’ Climbing Center and is a great first time climbing experience.

Focus on the essential movement skills necessary for efficient and smooth climbing in the gym. This class is a great follow up to our Intro to Climbing class and a critical step in the development of all climbers. Topics focus on weight shifting, hand and foot precision, fluid movement, and effortless climbing.

Introduction to Bouldering
Let a seasoned boulderer show you how fun and rewarding bouldering can be! Learn movement skills necessary for the overhanging terrain common in bouldering, spotting and falling (yes, you need to learn to fall) skills, and bouldering etiquette. If you are bouldering in the VIntro-V2 range or your climbing experience is limited to roped climbing thus far, this is the perfect class to jump start your bouldering experience!

Introduction to Sport Lead
So are you a top rope climber and ready to try the sharp end? For many lead climbing offers an elevated level of mental and physical challenge. This course will teach the critical techniques necessary to both lead climb and belay in the gym. Participants will be given the opportunity to take and catch practice lead falls. This course is also a great first step for those with aspirations of leading outdoors.

Prerequisites: Belay Safety Check (Top Rope). While there is no strict requirement on climbing ability, most participants are able to comfortably top rope in the 5.8 range or higher.

Sport Climbing Outside
Interested in moving your sport climbing outdoors? This indoor class will provide hands-on experience with best practices for single-pitch sport climbing, including clipping bolts, building anchors, cleaning an anchor, and lowering / rappelling. This class does not teach how to lead belay or lead climb (see Intro to Sport Lead for learning to lead belay and lead climb).

Self-Rescue Seminar
This is one of Earth Treks’ most important and intensive indoor courses. If you climb outside at all or are just interested in learning new rope skills, you need this class. We will teach the basics of prusik knots and belay escapes, as well as, how to rescue a climber from the ground or on rappel, and how to use hauling systems.
